WASHINGTON - Olympic NF Hosts Public Meeting Regarding Future ORV Use In Calawah Watershed
Dear BRC Action Alert Subscriber,
The Olympic National Forest invites the public to participate in a discussion regarding potential future Off Road Vehicle (ORV) recreational opportunities in the Calawah watershed. The meeting will be held on Monday, August 29, in the Fir Room at the Washington Department of Natural Resources in Forks, from 5:30pm - 7:30pm. An open house, from 5:00pm - 5:30pm, will precede the meeting to allow for open engagement with Forest Service personnel.
The agenda will include a welcome by Dean Millett, Ranger at the Pacific Ranger District, a presentation on potential ORV routes in the watershed, and a question and answer session with the opportunity for public comment. The Forest Service will also provide information on initial analysis and the NEPA planning process as they relate to the development of ORV recreation. Prior to and following the presentation, participants are invited to identify areas of interest and comment on the potential routes.
The Calawah River watershed originates in the Olympic Mountains, with elevations ranging from 3000 feet at the ridge tops to below 500 feet in the lowlands. The watershed encompasses over 86,000 acres and supports many important natural resources, as well as a wide range of recreational opportunities for local communities. This meeting is designed to bring together those who live, work, and recreate in the Calawah watershed. The community is encouraged to attend to learn more about the watershed and help plan its future.
For more information, please contact Sharon Yeh, Lands, & Minerals Program Manager, Olympic National Forest, syeh@fs.fed.us, (360) 765-2213.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact BRC.
