Update: the news is good from the Park Service. On December 15, 2011, the gates will open for the 2011-2012 season for snowmobile access to Yellowstone National Park. This access is being permitted by the Park Service as part of their new Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) process. The EIS process will determine a long term Winter Use plan for Yellowstone. The Park will operate under the regulations listed below just like the 2010-2011 season. A new long-term regulation should be in place by the 2012-2013 season.
