I had a conversation with my chassis builder he was against my idea of using lower transfercase gearing. He said lower axle gears make the chassis steer better with less stress on the chassis. I’m assuming torque steer or something of that nature. What are y’all’s thoughts? I’m a big fan of a doubler or ord magnum in this case and a 4.10 gear vs 5.38 and 3.8 atlas

Portal cars are generally 10:1 ish in the axle...mine is 4.88 diff x 1.92 portal. That takes a LOT of load off your case/trans and removes much of the torque twist in the drivetrain. (portals help that a ton too)

Obviously, there are some compromises with super deep diff ratios, but go a deep as you can.

I’ll be running 14bolts so im definitely limited. I like a little deeper crawl ratio than 5.38/3.8 affords (50-1) but a buddy of mine had a 5.43/4.3 (58-1)and he always hated it but I never got to drive it to see how I would actually like it

I'm 75:1 in 1st, and wouldn't want it any different.

Also run your numbers in 2nd and 3rd, I use those constantly. 2nd gear bumps are perfect, 40:1 for me.
