Need help getting started.

I'm wanting to start building a custom rock crawler out of an old broken down car. I was wanting opinions on what size engine I should use for a rock crawler, and hoping you could tell me more about building a custom crawler.

Gearing is everything for crawling, much more important than a motor (tho, a little horsepower can be nice)

Fuel injection for sure, the 5.3 Chevy's are plentiful and cheap.
