so, I found out the reason my case was popping out of low range . it turned out to be the detent ball holder/shift fork cap was too short bu1/8 of a inch witch would noy let the slide mesh with the gears like they should. easy fix!!!IIRC, I did the standard D300 specs....but it's been a while....

just made a 1/8 shim out of aluminum. the shift forks were bottoming outGot pix of what you did??
